One of the most important and influential indie rock bands to come from the 80s, REM formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980. In only a few years, REM made their presence known and felt on the alternative music scene with album releases and tours, until their breakthrough came with the 1988 release of Green, the first of brilliant and important alternative rock albums to follow.
